Datafile resize taking too much time - urgent

Guys

Why a simple Datafile resize takes too much time?

TABLESPACE_NAME      FILE# FILE_NAME                                          Allocated Size(MB) Used Size (MB) Free Size(MB)

--------------- ---------- -------------------------------------------------- ------------------ -------------- -------------

METREO_DATA             55 /pkgs011d/oradata/u01/s011d/metreodev_data_01.dbf                2048      1023.0625     1024.9375


SQL> alter database datafile '/pkgs011d/oradata/u01/s011d/metreodev_data_01.dbf' resize 1200M;

And even an alter system swtich logfile; takes forever

in the alert.log it just shows

Any idea suggestion or tip
