In eConfig Screen how to display field value by default without selecting a Product.

We have business requirement to display Product custom field(created in Administration--Product screen) in econfig Screen. That Custom field will display value either "Y" or "N" in econfig screen. I am able to bring that custom field in econfig screen by updating BC "Cfg ISS Prod Def" and econfig templates. After loading econfig screen user able to see custom field value by selecting a Product in econfig screen. But the users are asking to display that custom field value by default not when selected. Basically In Siebel order management terminology display value during pre-pick not at post pick selection.
