With Adv Warehouse turned on, can Primary be different than blank for an item?

With Adv. Warehousing switched on for the branch plant, will changing the primary location of an item to a location other than "blank" in P41024 (work with Item Locations) cause commitment issues or any other system issue?  I understand Primary should always be blank and not have any inventory on hand as this can cause serious commitment issues.   

The client wants the PO receipt location to default to the primary location of the item (like it does in XE not using warehouse) so the location doesn't have to be overridden at PO receipt.  My current thinking is the Multiple receiving locations preference would work best for this requirement when using Adv Warehouse.
