New COA mid-year, how does ARM handle that

We're going to go live in ARM with COA 1, July 2016, mostly likely we'll have COA 2 Aug 2017.  We update the profiles to COA 2 July 2017, copy to August 2017.  So July 2017 is COA 1, August is COA 2, how does that work in ARM?  How does it know what the prior reconciliation was?  Is there a way to map from COA 2 to COA 1.
