Remove non-stocked item from WIP Shortages on receipt traveler

Is there any standard functionality to eliminate the printing of wip shortage on the receipt traveler for a non-stocked item?

Our folks create direct items on work orders for an item type of Non Stock Item.

This non stocked item actually kicks off a requisition for repair work...thus it is not a physical item which would get transacted to a job.

The item is nit stockable, transactable or reservable.

However for some reason it is considered and inventory item...not sure why for that is before my time.

Any thoughts on how to suppress the printing of a wip shortage on the RT?
