Asset calculating additional depreciation

  Good day all,

                        A newly created asset on the system is calculating an additional depreciation because its cost is added to the cost of the initial asset on the system. How can i control the additional depreciation ? I want depreciation to be calculated on the cost of the new asset without summing the cost to the one on the system. Thank you.
