Steps to create standby database WITHOUT using RMAN

We are using 10204 (10gR2) database and 11gR2(11204) grid infrastructure/ASM. Our requirement is to create standby database but we don't have space to take RMAN backup. What are the step to create physical standby database WITHOUT using RMAN?
