xslt or DTE script for data mapping

Hello experts, I am always confused with which approach we can use in case the mapping is bit complex and cannot be done using data mapper.I am confused whether I go with xslt or go with DTE script if the solution can be implemented with both the approaches. Please help to understand. Thanks, suresh
