Tracking fixed assets

Hi,

We are currently using the fixed asset module and we now have  the requirement of tracking the assets status to know if it is in use or available .

We understand that if we use, Oracle Inventory with Oracle Asset Tracking, Installed Based and Fixed Asset modules, we should be able to accomplish the above process.

However, is there any other way this can be done without having to activate Asset Tracking?

Can anyone who had similar requirements in the past share with us their solution or workaround?
