Transitioning standard oppty to Oppty Product Revenue

We are currently using the standard opportunity page layout that doesn't have product information but are moving towards migrating everything to the Opportunity Product Revenue layout.  What is the recommended way to transition all existing opportunities into opportunities with the product revenue? I have all of the products set up. It appears that using the import wizard requires an Oppty External Unique ID vs. using the Oppty ID.  When I export the original oppty data, the external unique ID field is blank.  Suggestions?
