Approval hierarchies by GL account

Is there standard functionality to create approval hierarchies where the PO document like a req. or a PO will go to a different person based on a GL account? Or do we need to create a custom workflow to handle this?

I know we can create approval hierarchies to go to different people using the position hierarchy functionality for different types of PO documents but I don't know of anything that does it by GL account.
