What Does "comment=NONE" Signify in an RMAN BackupPiece?

edited Mar 5, 2016 4:03AM in Database Backup and Recovery (MOSC) 1 commentAnswered

When taking an RMAN Backup, RMAN logs each backuppiece's handle (file path) and "comment=NONE". Is there a documented method to provide your own comment, or is this internal? (this question is mainly out of interest - it's something that's always intrigued me, but I've never been able to find any documentation on the meaning of comments in backuppieces.)

Example (Oracle Enterprise Ed'n 11.2.0.3 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64):

channel ORA_DISK_3: finished piece 1 at 27-FEB-2016 10:38:12

channel ORA_DISK_3: backup piece complete, elapsed time: 00:04:21

channel ORA_DISK_3: input backup set: count=181194, stamp=904852408, piece=1

channel ORA_DISK_3: starting piece 1 at 27-FEB-2016 10:38:12

channel ORA_DISK_3: backup piece +FRA01/REDACT/backupset/2016_02_26/annnf0_prd_arc_fri_1930_disk_0.463.904852409

Howdy, Stranger!
