Why do i need to restore Database using RMAN if the database is still residing on ASM datastore. ODA

Branch from thread on how to back up databases if re-imaging an X5-2 -CL

The question is why do i need to restore Database using RMAN in meanwhile what i am asking is  database is still residing on ASM datastore.  what i need to do is just to resore binaries and home directory files. because re-imaging is doe not delete ASM repositories or datastore.

unless re-imaging destroys +ASM datastore.

awaiting your reply in more details please.
