flexfield for CM_CMPT_MST table

The Component class CM_CMPT_MST table has attribute1 to attribute30 columns and these are usually populated by descriptive flexfield values. But for Component class there isn't the [ ] symbol on the screen - does this mean i can't use flexfields against the information in this table? if i can, how do i do it?
