carriage return character in PDF with font subset embedding appears with square box with X

Hi,

I have situation in Windows Oracle Reports Server (11.1.2.2.0) where the carriage return character in the PDF output appears with a square box with X character.

The font subsetting appears to be successful when having checked the PDF document properties.  Does anyone know what could cause this issue? Any advice most appreciated.
