Process to create an Element similar to Carry Over Element

Hi,

I want to create an element which has an Entry Date,Expiry date  and Days which has to be used for an Accrual plan, But as per the accrual plan setup we need to have entry date and days fields to configure the element against it, but how should we make the accrued days invalid if not used before Expiry date. This functionality is just similar to Carry Over element which gets created when an accrual plan is defined.
