Control_file_record_keep_time

Hi All, 

As i understand control file keeps the history of RMAN backups based on the setting control_file_record_keep_time. my current setting is 14 days so i expect anything before days are overwritten.

but when i do crosscheck backup,  I noticed that  RMAN is crosschecked  the backups much older than 14 days (around 100 days).

please clarify how is that RMAN found the backup entries older than 14 days ?
