Reconciling Install Base with Asset Register

Hey there everybody-

I've been brought into a project where we need to reconcile the install base with the asset register. I've reviewed the transactional flows and much of Oracle's documentation, but I'm wondering if there's a white paper, report or best practice for reconciling the two. Or is this essentially a manual process that largely depends on how the business integrates the two systems?

Really just looking for some high level guidance here.
