how does "auto firm on release" work?

Hi everyone:

could anybody give me an acutal example of how " aoto firm on release" work in EAM parameter?  i learnt that if you firm a work oder, the scheduled start and end date will not be rescheduled by the operations of the WO, but what does auto firm on release actually mean?  is there anything else other than the WO operation can make the WO rescheduled after it's been released ?
