Expiry date of lot while trying to do receipt in RMA

Hi, I am trying to do a PO receipt in RMA, while doing that i need to enter the expiry date and the item i am receiving expired on 1-jan-2016, hence i need to insert this as my expiry date. But JDE is throwing an error as expiry date is less than effective date which i guess today's date. Kindly let me know how to proceed with this further. regards, Vinoth.
