Best practices on archiving contacts?

Hi all -

Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas on how to archive contacts?... People move around, retire, etc.

I know there is a post in this forum for kind of the same but it was asked back in 2013, so I was wondering if there was anything else we could do besides adding a status field to mark them as "archived".... so we can avoid the effort of modifying all reports with this extra filter....  Any best practices?
