Use of next status preference

Just wanted to understand from the group if we can use both the Next Status preference viz. basic and advanced in the same environment. To give a background we have a custom program which creates the Next Status Preference (Basic) for every possible Item/ Customer/Order type combinations. Now we have a business requirement where certain types of order types cannot be used for some customers. So we setup an Advanced Preference for Next Status which will override the Next Status to a non-existent order activity for combinations which are disallowed and hence prevent order entry.
