Backup performance after deleting data from tables

edited Apr 8, 2016 8:45AM in Database Backup and Recovery (MOSC) 9 commentsAnswered

Hi,

One of our customers have a 4TB DB that takes 8hours to backup, we are using FULL backup daily.

We are planning to delete a significant amount of data from the major big tables. My understanding is that this will NOT reduce the size of the files, and space will not be claimed by OS.

My question is, how would RMAN handle this? would the time spent to backup the files hosting these tables, be the same, since its the same size? or will it be much faster, since there is NO data?

Thanks for your help
