Changing the Service User password

we may shortly be faced with the unpleasant task of changing the password on the Windows service AD account.  Does anybody know if there is a best practices guide or anything that may tell us exactly where this password is stored and needs to be changed?  I am sure it is in more places than only the Windows Services applet.  It would be nice to know this prior to having to do it.
