12.2 Custom Schema and Synonyms

We are upgrading to 12.2.5 and we currently have custom schemas that have synonyms that reference tables.  Will these synonyms need to be changed to reference the APPS synonyms on the tables due to the new 12.2. coding standards that say you cannot reference tables, but must reference  the APPS synonym on the table?  If they have to be changed, is this something that the upgrade will handle or will we have to manually fix these?
