Currency Conversation in ARM?

A little confused, maybe it's Friday syndrome..  Ok, understand that in ARM you can't do currency conversion, so what's the point of entering rates?  Maybe you can do currency conversation in ARM?  Just can't seem to wrap my mind around or find any specific documentation about the currencies, rates and how they are utilized in ARM.  Any enlightenment is appreciated!
