How Siebel Audit trail works in background (Getting DB Locks)

Hi Experts,

I want to know how actually siebel audit trail works in background , like if i open audit on any buscomp what it will do in actual in background

As i am facing issue on Service requests as DB locks are getting generated on that but if i turn down the Audit the locks becomes less.

If an insertion is made in a Buscomp then after committ the row will be added in S_AUDIT_ITEM or after inserting in S_AUDIT_ITEM the commit will take place as a whole?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
