Org By Period Setup / Use

Hi,

I recently started in an company that uses Org by Period in their application.

I can see the app has this setting turned on, but how do we utilise it and what needs to be done to use it correctly.

I looked through the user guides and can't find much documentation on it.

Do we use it in conjunction with the ownership module?
