IO bursts on standby during log switch on primary

We have a 2-node RAC with a physical standby also being a 2-node RAC. Ver 11.2.0.4
SRL are created and Real Time Apply is enabled.
However, at the time of log switch on primary I see huge bursts of IO (mainly write IO) on the standby disks that contain data & SRL. As if Apply on standby is happening only or mostly on a switch. But I wonder why?
There does not seem to be any lag or even if there is a lag, its not huge.
Can somebody pls help here?
