Solaris 10 Sparc 1/06 system

I am trying to restore a Solaris 10 system pre-boot-archive.  When I boot, I get warnings that the file appears to be not executable, and that the boot-archive is not found.  Since this is a pre-boot-archive system, there is no boot-archive in /platform/sun4u, nor is there failsafe.  I tried to run bootadm, but it says that this is not a boot-archivable instance of Solaris.  How do I boot this older system?  do I need to make some OBP env changes?
