Installed Date not populating on Child Item

We have a serialized finished good that contains two serialized components that are also tracked in Install Base.  We complete discrete job and issue the child items, with Serial Numbers, to that job. When we ship the parent item the Installed Date is populated on one of the components but not the other.  Both components are setup the same.  Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue.
