gnome editor doesn't open

new install of oel 6.6, as part of the install I selected all the items identified as gnome.

I also did :

yum groupinstall "X Window System" "Desktop" "Desktop Platform" "General Purpose Desktop"

yum reinstall "@X Window System" "@Desktop" "@Desktop Platform" "@General Purpose Desktop"

yum groupupdate "X Window System" "Desktop" "Desktop Platform" "General Purpose Desktop"

and there were no errors.

but when I click on the editor icon nothing happens... if I go to accessories and select gedit nothing happens.

I can select kwrite and that editor opens up
