OGG 12c for Sybase 2k page limitation - Replicat only?

The documentation for OGG 12c for Sybase states ASE should be configured to use 4K or larger pages.

Configure the database page size to 4k, 8k,16k, 32k, or larger. If you configure a 2k database page size and attempt to create the GoldenGate UpgradeCheckpoint table, the database errors.

This recommendation mentions only the checkpointtable as a limitation where 2K pages would fail, presumably because the table width exceeds 1982 bytes.  However, the checkpointtable is used on the replicat side of OGG.  Would you be able replicate to such a database if you chose not to use a checkpointtable?
