exporting report data with embedded line feeds (an activities report)

Hello - I've written a report to export data from CRMOnDemand, mainly activities but joined with other related entity info.  I can't get this through a data export, which is why I built the report.

However, when I download the report output, all the imbedded linefeeds seem to get converted to spaces, so the description looks like one long run sentence.  How do I download and preserve linefeeds?
