Processing a Refund once Termination has been Processed

We have an ongoing issue wherein an Employee was Terminated as a Retiree in the system (i.e. Actual Termination = 4/30/2016). Final Pay Check has been processed. User later finds out we need to collect arrears or issue a refund for this retiree. Payroll cannot process the refund because elements has been end-dated during termination. Our quick solution was to Reverse the Termination, process the refund/arrears and reterminate the employee. However, this means that when we try to terminate the employee again we cannot use the original date of termination, in this case 4/30/2016, because a Payroll has been processed
