11GR2 Remove Node From Cluster

On page 9 of 21 in the Clusterware Administration and Deployment Guide, under 4) Added and Deleting Cluster Nodes, exists the following Notes section.  While I understand the section above the notes section, is the command in the Notes section necessary?  I've seen a couple of links where users have removed a node from a cluster (11g) and they only performed the section above the Notes.

Thanks, just trying to understand if the Notes command needs to actually be executed.
