Upgrade from 7.7.1.12 SEA to IP 2015

Customer wants to upgrade from the existing version of 7.7.1.12 SEA to IP 2015. As per our initial investigation we have found out that this requires a two step upgrade from 7.7.1.x SEA to 8.1.1 SEA and then from 8.1.1 SEA to 8.1.1.15.5 SIA.

Please can anybody confirm if this is the right supported upgrade path. Also some few questions are as below

1.  For 7.7.1.12 SEA to 8.1.1 SEA upgrade how the 8.1.1 SEA installation of software would take place ? Would it be new Installation of 8.1.1 SEA and then running the DB configuration Utilities to start the upgrep and then perform the repository merge and then the post merge utilities and after the conflicts resolution , run the upphys method.
