RAC functionality testing

We have configured two node RAC using standard edition.  now without connecting to our business application to RAC.

we want to test the RAC functionality by some custom made script or command.. like load balancing, failover and etc.

in general, how Oracle RAC testing done in the field before implement it on production server ?

also need to figure out practically, how Oracle RAC is useful compare to standalone?
