Get error 070R Accumulated Cost are zero when changing computation method from C to I

I get  error 070R Accumulated Cost are zero when changing computation method from C to I . When I look at the asset, I have a cost of 82000 and an accum depreciation of ca 40000. There are no sub ledgers used and account in F1201 is same as account in  F1202. So these suggestions from Oracel site do not explain the behavior..  Putting the method back to C will calculate depreciation and gives no errors. So what can cause this issue ?  Is it not possible to change the computation method half way ?  We also changed the nr
