Send 855 Order Confirmation without Status Change?

We are setting up Outbound 855 Order Confirmations for the first time. We've mostly got it working with a special order status, but have concerns around transportation and getting the orders into the warehouse. We ship most product same day and getting an order flowing smoothly into the warehouse process is very important. So, we have R4982 running very frequently to get shipments approved and pick requests generated within minutes of an order hitting the system.
