P0006 Subledger Inactive: What exactly does this do?

We are on 8.10

The "What's This" on this field is not totally clear to me. Why would we Inactivate an account using this field?

Does it not create F0902 records for the Subledger field if this is marked inactive???

The main reason I am asking is that I think some individuals have marked business units as "Subledger Inactive" when they MEANT to mark the business unit as N - nonposting.

Can you clarify the difference between the two?
