FDMEE Excel output version

Does anyone know how to get FDMEE to output to Microsoft Excel "xlsx" as opposed to the default 'xls' which is 3-4 times bigger in size and has the max size restriction of 64000 rows?

In my particular environment, access to the back end db is not possible on a regular basis, and regular queries through the front end is a requirement.

Crazy that this new version of FDM still uses the old version of Excel...
