Hi! Is it possible to consume forecasts without sales orders?

I'm wondering how forecasts are consumed or "closed" if we don't use sales orders?  Is it possible to consume forecasts at the time of discrete job work order completion?  If not, how to know if a demand from a forecast is already fulfilled?
