Server in UTC. How (when) do you close the monthly inventory and GL periods in various time zones?

We are moving to a server on UTC time zone, but have organizations in 4 time zones around the world.  Since it seems to be impossible to specify a date/time for GL Period and Inventory Period, how do other global companies close their books?  We plan to close our US Eastern time org at local time 20:00 and India org at 05:30 (the next day), but this surely there is a better way. Any suggestions would be appreciated
