Can 11g RAC database be run with 12c grid?

We scheduled the upgrade of our 11.2.0.3 database and Grid to 12.1.0.2 but the upgrade of the grid took longer than expected.  Rather than impacting the business with an extended outage, can the database remain 11.2.0.3 with the Grid upgraqded to 12.1.0.2?   This is a 2 node RAC BTW,
