Work Order tied to Sales order

I am looking for a way to tie a Sales Order directly to a work order that has already been planned, is in process, or has been completed. The purpose of doing this is for us to receive a production date to give our customer a good sense of when their product will ship. We would prefer to avoid work order quantities of 1 (have multiple sales orders tied to on work orders) but are open to anything. I would also like to ensure that the quantities of the sales orders do not exceed the quantity of the work order.
