Upgrading Oracle Grid when upgrading Database

Hello,

We are in the process of evaluating moving to Oracle 12c. We are currently running oracle grid (ASM, HAS) on a single instance server configuration. The grid version is 12.1.0.1 the current DB version is 11.2.0.4. We are looking to move to 12.1.0.2 per our application's vendors recommendations on supported versions. I have two related questions

1. Is it required that we upgrade our GRID infrastructure to a matching or later version of Oracle Grid.

2. Is it recommended or best practice that we upgrade the grid infrastructure to match

I have read conflicting reports online so I wanted to get an answer straight from Oracle as this will help me develop the upgrade plan. My gut says to upgrade anyway but as with anything I wanted to see what is recommended or best practices.
