Has anyone set up sales order margin hold thresholds based on categorizations of items?

We currently use the order threshold settings in the P42090 to control hold codes for margins going on orders, but users are now asking if different percentages can be used for different types of items.  So, not just an order line basis - but rather by category codes of items as different categories will have different % thresholds.  I am assuming this would require customization to JDE - has anyone done it?
