when I run the "orders summary report", what does customer name(from) mean?

Hi gurus,

when I run the "orders summary report", what does customer name(from) mean?

I mean customer name is just consist of words, how does it work? If I choose customer A in customer name (from), and customer B in customer name(to), what will happen ?
