How BASIS works in Advanced Variable Numerator Allocations

Hi,

I am referring to document 1466180.1 on Advanced Variable Numerator Allocations. After going through it, I am clear on how Source, Destination & BU Overrides works.

But not getting a clue on how this BASIS works.

My current understanding on BASIS: it is the numerator that calculates or decides the % to be applied on SOURCE Amounts.

Example in document: Head Count in each BU is

BU 910092: 500

BU 910093: 300

BU 910094: 200

Total Count is 1000.

Question: How and from where these numbers are fetched & calculated by the program
